ASM was created in 2017 to provide consulting services to new businesses in Puerto Rico, focusing on the various tax incentives laws that are presently known collectively as the Puerto Rico Incentives Code (Act 60-2019).
ASM also helps clients with all operational aspects of opening or operating a local business, including permitting, real estate, financing, business planning, government relations, and others. Our network will also give clients access to other trusted advisors, such as CPAs, attorneys, architects, engineers, etc.
Ernesto Sgroi, the Managing Member of ASM, has over 25 years of financial experience in both the private and government sectors in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Sgroi worked at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Hotel Development Corporation, preparing feasibility analyses and tax incentive grants, the administration of several government-owned hotels and master planning for a principal tourist destination in San Juan. He later became Chief Financial Officer of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Puerto Rico Convention Center District, managing a $125 million real estate portfolio, $100 million in securities, $41 million investments in new projects, and securing a $76 million line of credit.
Mr. Sgroi also worked at the Puerto Rico Government Development Bank, where he was involved in the management of the RFP process to privatize government-owned assets such as hotels, health care facilities, prisons, and a telecommunications company.
In the private sector, Mr. Sgroi, a licensed Puerto Rico real estate broker, has experience in commercial real estate development and administration, with over 45 properties under ownership or management. As a consultant, he offers clients turnkey solutions for tax incentives in Puerto Rico including Resident Investor, Export Services, Manufacturing, Tourism, and many others.
Mr. Sgroi has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Miami and a master’s in business administration from Columbia Business School in New York; he was Vice-Chairman of the Puerto Rico Board of Real Estate Brokers from 2012 to 2016 and Chairman of the Governing Board of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority from 2017 to 2018.
